Compliance is Key in 2026

Small misunderstandings—about payments, booking mechanics, travel timing, or rescheduling rules—can cost you weeks… or even your exam opportunity. This blog is based on AHPRA’s official Registered Nurse OSCE Frequently Asked Questions document and is written to be simple, practical, and action-focused.

Nurse Assist International (NAI) is here to help you prepare, organize, and perform with confidence, ensuring you don't face confusion or wasted time.

Rule #1: The RN OSCE fee is $4000 — and it’s not refundable

Before you can select an exam date, AHPRA requires the OSCE fee ($4000) to be paid through your IQNM dashboard. Most importantly: AHPRA states the OSCE fee is not refundable.

What this means for you:

  • Don’t pay until your documents, timeline, and availability are realistic.
  • Don’t assume you can “cancel and get money back” if your plans change.

✅ How NAI Helps:

NAI helps you create a smart OSCE plan before you pay—so your booking, travel timing, and preparation all line up properly. We focus on helping you avoid expensive timing mistakes.

Rule #2: Booking is capacity-limited — only 40 candidates per cycle

Booking confirmation emails come after you select a date, but spots are first come, first served. AHPRA states the maximum capacity is 40 candidates per exam cycle and spots can fill fast. There is no waiting list.

What this means for you:

  • If you respond late, you may miss the next cycle.
  • You must check email and act quickly when booking options arrive.

✅ How NAI Helps:

NAI helps you stay ready for booking—documents organized, timeline planned, and response steps clear—so you can move fast when AHPRA contacts you.

Rule #3: You must travel to Adelaide — AHPRA won’t arrange or reimburse costs

The RN OSCE is held at the Adelaide Health Simulation Centre. Candidates must travel to Adelaide at their own cost. AHPRA does not coordinate or reimburse travel/accommodation.

What this means for you:

  • You must plan financially for travel + accommodation.
  • You must plan time off, arrival timing, and buffer days intelligently.

✅ How NAI Helps:

NAI helps you build a realistic, low-risk travel plan around your OSCE cycle so you don’t waste money or increase stress right before exam day.

Rule #4: Rescheduling has a strict 72-hour deadline — voicemail doesn’t count

Rescheduling requests must be received at least three full business days (72 hours) before your exam. Leaving a message does not count—you need written confirmation. Failure to appear means no refund.

What this means for you:

  • If something goes wrong (flight, illness), you must act early.
  • You must get written confirmation—don’t assume it’s done.

✅ How NAI Helps:

NAI helps you plan with safer buffers and guidance so you’re not forced into last-minute rescheduling risks. We ensure strict adherence to deadlines.

Rule #5: The OSCE format is strict — 10 stations, timed bells, confidentiality rules

The exam consists of 10 stations (10 mins each: 2 mins reading, 8 mins performance). Strict confidentiality rules apply—no electronic devices allowed.

What this means for you:

  • Your success depends on timed performance under pressure.
  • You must practice reading quickly and communicating clearly.
  • You must follow confidentiality rules without exception.

✅ How NAI Helps (Maximum Value):

NAI supports you with structured OSCE preparation—helping you build station rhythm, improve clinical communication, manage timing, and walk into the exam prepared. We help you perform like an OSCE-ready RN.

Bonus: Results Timeline & Next Steps

AHPRA states results are sent within six (6) weeks. If you pass, you can apply for registration. If you fail, you must wait for notification before paying for a re-sit.

✅ NAI Support Continues:

NAI supports you after results too—helping you understand next steps, organize the process, and improve your performance plan if a re-sit is needed.
